I just love these little steak bites so much, mostly because they’re incredibly versatile and can easily be eaten for lunch, dinner or as a snack. Oh, and because they make steak seem a little less intimidating.

Though I know traditional steak is easy to prep, it can often seem intimidating because it’s often seen as “fancy”. But these steak bites? They’re casual and couldn’t be easier to whip up. In fact, they only require 10 minutes of work, which can’t be said about many recipes.

What are steak bites?

Steak bites are essentially bite-sized pieces of steak. Since they’re bite-sized, you don’t need a knife to eat them. Instead, just eat them eat them with a fork and appreciate the fact that they’re already cut for you!

Bite-Size Steak Ingredients

Top sirloin steak – This is what I used and what I recommend, but you can use other cuts of beef as well.

Extra virgin olive oil – Or you can use avocado oil. You want to use an oil with a high smoke point, like olive oil or avocado oil.

Ghee – Ghee is just clarified butter, but it is paleo-friendly. You can also substitute butter and it’ll work just as well.

Garlic – Garlic pairs perfectly with butter and helps elevate the flavor profile of this recipe

How to Make Steak Bites

Step 1: Cut the steak. This might be the most important step! Be sure to use a sharp knife, then cut the steak into 1″ cubes. Again, you want them to be bite-sized so when you eat them (or serve them), you can just eat them with a fork vs. a fork and knife.

Step 2: Cook the steak. Since the steak is cut into smaller pieces, it will cook relatively quickly. Simply heat a small amount of oil in a large skillet then cook the steak for a few minutes or to your liking.

Step 3: Add the “sauce” aka butter. When the steak is almost done cooking, add the butter and garlic, which will add a ton of flavor to this recipe (as butter and garlic tend to do!). I recommend using grass-fed butter or ghee to keep this recipe paleo/whole30.

Erin’s Tips

  • Make sure to use grass-fed butter or ghee if you want to keep this Paleo/Whole30.
  • Mince the garlic ahead of time so you have it ready when you need it.
  • I find that the steak browns better in a cast iron skillet, so if you have one on hand, I’d say use it for this recipe.
  • Garnish the bites with either chopped parsley or chives.

My Pro Tip

Recipe Tip

Serve steak bites alongside air fryer potato wedges, sautéed asparagus or even on top of an arugula salad.

Steak Bites FAQs

What cut of steak is best for steak bites?

I recommend using top sirloin steak because it’s easy to find, relatively affordable and cooks quickly. However, any kind of steak should work for this recipe.

Can I cook steak ahead of time?

Sure can! But, like any steak recipe, it’s going to taste much better fresh. The whole recipe comes together in just 10 minutes, so I definitely recommend making it right before you want to eat it.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. top sirloin steak*

  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp butter or ghee
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Cut steak into 1" cubes and season them with salt and pepper; set aside. Mince garlic and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet and add the steak, cooking over medium heat for 3-4 minutes. Then, add the butter and garlic and continue cooking the steak for 1-2 minutes or until it's done to your liking. You want the butter to be completely melted and the steak to be browned in all sides.
  • Sprinkle fresh parsley on top, and serve steak with your favorite sauce.

Notes

*I like using top sirloin steak because it’s relatively affordable, easy to find and cooks quickly, but any kind of steak will work.
-Make sure to use ghee OR grass-fed butter if you want to keep this Paleo-friendly
-I love using my cast iron skillet because I think it does a great job browning meat, which is what we want for this recipe.

Every cut of steak is slightly different, so perhaps cooking it for a little less time next time could help!

I used Filet Mignon pieces left over from slicing my own loin. This recipe was easy, delicious, and cooked very fast so have the butter and garlic ready early if you like rarer pieces of meat.
