Whether it&rsquo;s this <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/blueberry-baked-oatmeal\/\">blueberry baked oatmeal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/strawberry-oatmeal\/\">strawberry oatmeal<\/a> or my seasonal <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/baked-pumpkin-oatmeal\/\">baked pumpkin oatmeal<\/a>, it&rsquo;s a tasty, filling and healthy way to get the day started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On special occasions, I tend to opt for a slice of this <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/apple-coffee-cake\/\">apple coffee cake<\/a>, and when I want apple oatmeal in cookie form, these <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/apple-oatmeal-cookies\/\">apple oatmeal cookies<\/a> are the way to go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-oatmeal-ingredients\">Oatmeal Ingredients<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oats &ndash;<\/strong> I prefer using rolled oats simply for the texture. Rolled oats create a creamier oatmeal, whereas steel cut oats have more of a bite to them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Liquid &ndash;<\/strong> A mix of water and the milk of your choice is the right amount of creaminess. Only using water makes the oats too bland, but only using milk makes them a tad too hearty and thick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sweetener &ndash;<\/strong> Maple syrup pairs really well with cinnamon, but honey is another great choice. I personally wouldn&rsquo;t omit sweetener altogether, but you could always reduce the amount if you prefer less sweet tasting oatmeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apple &ndash;<\/strong> Use your favorite variety (I used Gala), and there&rsquo;s no need to peel it. Instead, leave the skin on and simply dice into bite-size pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>See the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-variations\">Variations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Oats:<\/strong> As noted in the Ingredients section above, I find rolled oats to be better in oatmeal. However, if you don&rsquo;t have any on hand you can certainly use steel cut oats or quick oats instead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Protein: <\/strong>If you want the oatmeal to be extra filling, stir in a scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder once the oats are done cooking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Add-ins:<\/strong> Add a tablespoon or two of chia seeds or flaxseeds in with the oats and allow them to cook. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Toppings:<\/strong> Besides cooked apple, other tasty toppings are <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/grain-free-granola\/\">grain-free granola<\/a>, chopped walnuts, cooked pear, raisins, a drizzle of <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/healthier-salted-caramel-sauce\/\">healthy caramel sauce<\/a>, a drizzle of almond butter, and\/or pumpkin seeds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-make-apple-oatmeal\">How to Make Apple Oatmeal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1: Bring liquid to a boil.<\/strong> Start by adding the water and milk to a small saucepan, then bring the mixture to a boil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2: Cook the oats.<\/strong> Add the oats to the saucepan, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Stir occasionally until the oats have softened and the liquid has absorbed, about 5 minutes. Once melted, add the apple and saut&eacute; for 2 minutes or so. Then, add the water and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the apple is soft. Reheat in the microwave before serving. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feel free to play around with the sweetness level.
