Wrong! This Chocolate Smoothie is chocolatey, creamy, and deliciously rich. It\u2019s like dessert in a glass!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blending avocado, protein powder, and banana together is what gives this smoothie a uniquely rich and thick texture. It\u2019s similar to my <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/chocolate-peanut-butter-protein-smoothie\/\">Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie<\/a>, in that it\u2019s more filling than your average smoothie, but puts more of a focus on the divine chocolate flavors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be surprised to learn that chocolate and avocado are basically BFFs (as proven in my <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/chocolate-peanut-butter-avocado-brownies\/\">Avocado Brownies<\/a> recipe). Cocoa powder hides the flavor from the avocado, while the green fruit makes every sip of this chocolate avocado smoothie feel like a chocolatey dessert. I highly recommend enjoying a glass for breakfast because it fills you up and adds a little fun to the start of your day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recipe-features\">Recipe features<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\u2019s thicker and more filling than your average smoothie thanks to the avocado and protein powder.<\/li><li>Avocado + cocoa powder + banana = a sweet, creamy, healthy, and filling chocolate smoothie!<\/li><li>It\u2019s made with a handful of wholesome, nourishing ingredients. A frozen banana will make the smoothie ice-cold and give it a thicker consistency, but you\u2019ll need to use less or omit the ice entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Avocado<\/strong> &#8211; There are plenty of reasons why you should start adding avocados to smoothies. First, they can protect your <a href=\"https:\/\/utswmed.org\/medblog\/avocado-a-day\/\">cardiovascular health<\/a>. Second, their healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats can help <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cedars-sinai.org\/blog\/healthy-and-delicious-avocado.html\">lower your cholesterol<\/a>. Lastly, they\u2019re rich and delicious! Blended avocado is ultra creamy and pairs especially well with chocolate (try this <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/chocolate-avocado-cake-gluten-free\/\">Chocolate Avocado Cake<\/a> if you need proof).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yogurt<\/strong> &#8211; Use regular, Greek, or non-dairy yogurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Protein powder<\/strong> &#8211; I recommend using chocolate, vanilla, or plain protein powder. Other flavors won\u2019t complement the chocolate flavor as well. Or, if you don\u2019t have protein powder, leave it out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cocoa powder <\/strong>&#8211; Try to use unsweetened cocoa powder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Milk<\/strong> &#8211; Again, use regular milk or non\u2013dairy milk if you need the smoothie to be vegan\/dairy free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-by-step-instructions\">Step-by-step instructions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1: Add everything to a blender. <\/strong>Place all of the ingredients into a high-powered blender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2: Blend, then enjoy. <\/strong>Blend until the consistency is completely smooth. Blend in 1 tablespoon of milk at a time until you reach your desired consistency.<\/li><li>Make it a meal by topping your smoothie with chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, crushed nuts, <a href=\"https:\/\/thealmondeater.com\/chocolate-gingerbread-granola\/\">chocolate gingerbread granola<\/a>, or fruit.<\/li><li>Easily double or triple the recipe to make a big batch of chocolate smoothies.<\/li><li>Add 1 pitted date if you like your chocolate smoothies to taste extra sweet.<\/li><li>Give it a boost of caffeine and enhance the chocolate flavor by blending in 1 teaspoon of espresso powder (or instant coffee) or 1 ounce of brewed espresso (or coffee).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-you-make-it-ahead-of-time\">Can you make it ahead of time?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t recommend making a chocolate avocado smoothie more than a few hours ahead of serving. Avocado flesh starts to turn brown when it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compoundchem.com\/2014\/08\/03\/why-do-avocados-turn-brown-the-chemistry-of-avocados\/\">exposed to air<\/a>. While this doesn\u2019t affect the look of your smoothie, brown avocado doesn\u2019t taste nearly as good as the fresh, green stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-else-can-you-add-to-a-chocolate-smoothie\">What else can you add to a chocolate smoothie?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can give this smoothie an even higher nutritional boost by adding healthy ingredients that won\u2019t affect the flavor.
