These easy Dog Popsicles are a great way to cool your pup down this summer! Made with banana and peanut butter and easy to customize based on ingredients you have on hand, your dog will thank you for these!

Spoiler alert: my dog is really spoiled, and even more so now that I’ve been making her these pupsicles, aka homemade dog popsicles these past couple of months. See, they’re made with human ingredients, but totally dog friendly as well, so you and your pup can enjoy them together.

Truthfully, I was inspired by my dog cake recipe, and even more so by my pumpkin dog cake, which just so happens to be people-friendly as well.

If I’m going to make my dog a cake for her birthday, I might as well make her popsicles to enjoy throughout the summer, right? Right. If you also enjoy spoiling your pet, you need to try these yourself!

Recipe features

  • A very easy and delicious way to spoil your pet
  • A tasty frozen treat for your dog to enjoy on hot days
  • Made in a blender and they only require about 5 minutes to prepare

Ingredient notes

Banana – This is the main ingredient, so I don’t recommend any substitutions. Use fresh, ripe bananas instead of frozen if possible.

Peanut butter – Or, use any kind of nut butter.

Honey – Honey is my sweetener of choice for this, but the recipe only calls for a small amount. This is optional, but I think makes the popsicles taste better.

Milk – I used oat milk, but any kind of milk should work (as always, check with your vet if you’re unsure). Milk makes these popsicles super creamy, but if you want, you can use water instead.

Add-ins – Lots of options here! You could add unsweetened yogurt, plain Greek yogurt or pumpkin puree, or even use chicken broth as the liquid instead of milk/water. If you want to get fancy, you could even stir in some crushed up dog treats.

Instructions

Step 1: Add ingredients. Add the bananas, peanut butter, honey, and milk to a blender (I used my NutriBullet) and blend until smooth.

Step 2: Make the popsicles. Pour the mixture into your popsicle mold (this recipe makes 6 popsicles), then stick the popsicle sticks in and place the entire thing in the freezer. Freeze the popsicles for at least 2 hours.

Tips and tricks

  • Don’t own a popsicle mold? No problem! You can pour the mixture into an ice cube tray instead and the result will be individual frozen dog treats.
  • If you want to switch up the flavors, you could try using frozen blueberries or strawberries as the base.

Are popsicles safe for dogs?

Yes! With that said, many store-bought popsicles contain sugar, artificial sweeteners and/or other random ingredients that may not be dog-friendly. So, making your own (which only takes 5 minutes) is a great way to ensure your furry friend is eating a dog-safe treat.

Do I have to use peanut butter?

Nope! I also tested a recipe using Greek yogurt and chicken broth, but Layla didn’t like them nearly as much as the peanut butter ones, so I scrapped it. But, you can definitely get creative with these!

How long will dog popsicles keep?

Popsicles stay fresh in the freezer for 4-6 weeks. But, if your dog is anything like mine, these will be gone in a week.

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a popsicle mold and place it in the freezer for at least 4 hours. Do you give the dog popsicle sticks? Wouldn’t they chew them up? Are popsicle sticks safe for a dog to ingest. I’d love to make these for my dogs this summer.

I wouldn’t give them the popsicle stick, no. I held mine for my dog to eat and she ate around the popsicle stick, though I suppose some dogs would try to eat it. If that’s the case, you can buy popsicle molds with a plastic or silicone handle instead of wood and I think that would help.

My Morkie, Riley, loves these snacks! I make half the original recipe and freeze them in an ice cube tray. Family time on the deck having her ice cream is her favorite time of day.

These Dog Popsicles sound amazing! It’s great to see a recipe that includes human ingredients but is still safe for our furry friends. I love that the recipe is so customizable and easy to make in just a few minutes. I also appreciate the tips on using different ingredients and the reminder that store-bought popsicles may not be safe for dogs. I can’t wait to try making these for my own pup and see how much he enjoys them. Thanks for sharing this recipe! Please visit my blog: https://www.petdogplanet.com/
