This Chocolate Banana Mug Cake is a quick and healthy way to curb your chocolate craving. Bonus: it only takes minutes to make!
chocolate banana mug cake
What’s the best flavor combination in the world? Obviously something with chocolate, but what else? Chocolate+peanut butter, chocolate+coconut; those are two of my favorite for sure, but another favorite is probably chocolate+banana. I remember when I was younger I used to go to the annual fair back in Ohio and get a chocolate covered banana every year because they were too good to pass up. So, why not create a simple mug cake with that flavor combination?

I’ve made a few different mug cake recipes and I always love them. Mug cakes are the perfect single serve dessert and perfect for when I’m craving sweets but don’t want to overdo it. With that being said, I am NOT a baker. Baking scares me. I’m afraid to add too much flour/salt/baking soda/baking powder etc., so I was thrilled that this recipe turned out on the SECOND try. Woohoo!

BANANA MUG CAKE INGREDIENTS

  • banana
  • whole wheat flour
  • cocoa
  • sugar
  • milk
  • chocolate chips
This microwave banana mug cake will take you no longer than three minutes to make, and afterward the only thing you will have to wash is a mug and maybe a few measuring spoons. Nothing is better than a quick clean-up. NOTHING. Ok you’re right–it’s second best after a delicious homemade chocolate banana mug cake.

HOW TO MAKE A MUG CAKE

Chocolate Banana Mug Cake

In order to make a mug cake, you’re going to need a microwave-safe mug. It sounds like a no-brainer, but not all mugs are, so make sure yours is before you make this recipe. Once you have that, you’re going to mash the ripe banana in the bottom of the mug, then mix all of the dry ingredients MINUS the chocolate chips together with the banana. Next, stir in the milk so that all the ingredients are combined. As a result, you should have something that resembles cake batter.
Now, you’re going to microwave the cake for approximately 45 seconds or until the cake is set. This banana mug cake recipe is egg-free, so it’s ok if it’s slightly under-baked. Last, sprinkle some chocolate chips on top for that extra goodness.

This whole cake might take up a whole 9 minutes of your time: 3 minutes to prepare, 3 minutes to eat and a 3 minute clean up. Plus, it’s healthy and delicious—what could be better?

Lovely recipe, however before I go for it, could I use oats instead of wheat flour? And if yes what would be the nutritional changes for this recipe?

I wouldn’t recommend using oats/oat flour.. it typically acts differently in baking than wheat or all purpose flour. If you want a gluten free option, I’d try gluten free all purpose flour instead!
